Did Facebook help you write your will America?

Where is the first place you go when you have a question?  Where do you get advice and assistance?  Most of us use the internet and social media to help us with the mundane to the bizarre.

If you want to know the first American President or how to open wine without a corkscrew (yes, that was me) you go online.  A recent report from the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau discovered that most American adults only seek information in their personal social networks.  They prefer peer to peer information rather than expertise. In addition this was found to be true across all demographics, including income and education.

This is fantastic if you have lots of friends with ingenuity and no corkscrews.  But what if you need to make a life affecting decision?  What if you need estate planning advice?  What if personal tragedy has prompted you to get your affairs in order?  What if you need to write a will?

Life without the internet is unimaginable now.  But use with caution.  Watch kittens fall over on repeat all you like.  However if you have a question which may impact your ability to provide for your family after your death you may want to ask a professional rather than Facebook.
